Family Committee Meeting

Family Committee Meeting

Are you a postdoc with a family or planning a family?  We need your input!

Calling all postdoctoral fellows with children or who have children or who are thinking of having children!  We want to make your family life easier with initiatives:

  1. To improve communication and opportunities to get family support within Stanford and the Bay Area
  2. To coordinate child friendly events and social activities for parents and potential parents (e.g. discounts to children's museums, park activities)
  3. To organize play groups
  4. To present Stanford administration with a comprehensive list with ways to improve postdoc lives with families (e.g. flexible spending accounts, subsidized childcare, back up care).

We are the SURPAS family committee and would greatly appreciate your input on Monday 10/16/2017 at 10am - 11am in LKSC room 203/204.

We'll have coffee and snacks to keep you awake and energized!  See you then!

If you are unable to attend, but have great ideas for how you can be better supported, please email the chair of the SURPAS Family Committee Sarah Eagleman at with [SURPASFamily] in the subject line.

Hike at Sweeney Ridge

SURPAS Sports is planning a hike to Sweeney Ridge ( on Sat April 1st. The total distance for the full loop is about 5-1/2 miles and it is estimated to take about 3 hours. Please be prepared for some steep areas, but overall the trail should be relatively moderate. The trail is mostly exposed so we will plan on an afternoon start. We will meet at Stanford at 12:30pm (for carpools) or the Trailhead at 1:30pm (more details will be provided as we approach the date). Also, please consider driving a carpool for your fellow post docs that don’t have their own transportation.

Dogs are permitted on the trail (ON-LEASH ONLY AT ALL TIMES). If you are considering brining your dog please email John Hegarty ( to discuss further details and requirements. Remember, your dog will be your responsibility throughout the duration of this trip (on and off the trail). Additionally, this is a group trip so if your dog has any behavioral or socialization issues he/she should not come.

Join us and enjoy a great hike with fellow postdocs!
