The SURPAS sports committee's next trip is to Point Reyes National Seashore, which is a beautiful stretch of Pacific coast in Marin County – on October 24!
What: Hiking in Point Reyes National Seashore
When: Saturday, October 24, 2015
We will be able to take 20 people, so register quickly to reserve your spot!
Transportation & Parking: We will meet bright and early at 8:30am on campus (top of the Oval - https://www.google.com/maps?daddr=37.429069,-122.169728&hl=en&ll=37.429108,-122.168618&spn=0.00322,0.005944&sll=37.429014,-122.169433&sspn=0.003221,0.007988&mra=mift&mrsp=1&sz=18&t=m&z=18) to organize car pooling. Please help us out if you have a car. If you don't have a car, please bring some cash to share gas and the bridge toll.
Description: It should take around 2.5 hrs to get there. Given the longer drive, we've decided to do a longer hike to make the trip worthwhile. We'll do the hike from the Palomarin trailhead to the Alamere Falls (there may or may not be water...):
It's 7.5 miles (not much elevation) with an estimate of 4 hours. The terrain is mostly exposed.
What to bring: WATER, WATER, WATER - this is a 7.5 mile hike in mostly exposed territory with no water available, lunch, sunscreen + hat for sun protection, cash for gas & bridge (~$5-10/person), there is some poison oak in Point Reyes and long hiking pants may not be a bad idea (with the obvious temperature tradeoff), layers! (it can get cold).
Cancellation policy: Rain = cancelation.
Sign-up: If you plan on joining us, please fill out the sign-up sheet: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1kdkWwCsgaWkBRNhQA9t0_XsXGzNEHMFxb4Al8W-7T9I/viewform?usp=send_form
The event is open to Stanford postdoc community, including family members and friends of postdocs (each postdoc can bring 1 guest). If the registration goes over 20 people, we will put further registrations on a wait-list and notify you of any openings.
Please feel free to contact us at email@example.com if you have any questions. We are very excited to go hiking in Point Reyes with you on October 24th!
