The SURPAS Sports and Social Committee is planning to have our next hike at Castle Rock (http://bahiker.com/southbayhikes/castlerock.html) on Sunday April 30th.
Castle Rock is just south of Mountain View in the Santa Cruz Mountains and is reviewed as one of the best hikes in the Bay Area. The 5.49 mile partial loop hike is moderate, with about 1000 feet in elevation change. Some short sections of the trail are steep, and there are portions that require brief scrambles on narrow exposed paths with sharp drop-offs. The trail is mostly shaded at the beginning and end, but exposed in the middle. The hike will take about 3 hours and is about a 45 min drive from Stanford.
We will meet at Stanford at 8:00am (for carpools) or the Trail head at 9:00am (more details will be provided as we approach the date). Also, please consider driving a carpool for our fellow post docs that don’t have their own transportation (plus it will cut down on parking fees). Unfortunately, dogs are NOT permitted in Castle Rock State Park. Be sure to bring plenty of water and snacks or a lunch. We will have some assorted snacks available at the trailhead as well.
Join us and enjoy a great hike with fellow postdocs!
