Postdoc:Grad Mentoring Happy Hour (Someone like me: an inclusive mentoring program)

  • Black Community Service Center Stanford D-CORE (through Lane Library) (map)

We're kicking off the new quarter of the "Someone Like Me" mentoring program with a Happy Hour Reunion and Meetup on Wednesday, February 27th from 5-7pm @ D-CORE (Lane Library).  Come reconnect with folks you met last quarter, and get to know new faces.  We'll take ideas on how to improve the program for the coming months and suggestions on what y'all would like to do.

Please RSVP here if you can make it (to help with food/drink orders):

Whether you enjoyed the program before or this will be your first time, we’d also love your help to organize this Spring. The more the merrier, and the less work for all.  :D

We partnered with Stanford BioAIMS to develop “Someone like me” the first postdoc : senior (3+) graduate student mentoring program focused on supporting trainees from diverse and marginalized backgrounds. 👨🏼‍🎓👩🏾‍🎓👨🏻‍🎓👩🏻‍🎓👩🏼‍🎓👩🏿‍🎓👨🏿‍🎓👨🏽‍🎓👩🏽‍🎓

The postdoc-graduate student mentoring program seeks to provide more professional guidance to graduate students from minoritized backgrounds, who often struggle to find relatable role models at the faculty level. Postdocs often seek opportunities to mentor, and intimately understand the current academic climate. The program brings together postdocs and students at monthly themed lunches with group discussions on topics chosen based on surveyed attendees’ needs and interests. Through this format, we aim to educate attendees and to build a robust community of mentors and mentees.
